“Aha” Moment

The aha moment was when I came to understand the implications of the Knowledge Gap as it relates to MOOC’s. Unless we as instructors are enabling the learners to acquire greater competence and confidence with the tools and skills they need to access learning material from the sea of information available, they will feel cut off from it.  I see students struggle valiantly to make it through the technical training course that I instruct, and go on to complete their apprenticeships.  I am left wondering how many of them feel empowered by the experience, and how many are glad to put the classroom behind them, perhaps for good.  Ideally, if my aim is to foster lifelong learning, they should feel confident that they can take on the challenges ahead.
